GIS can be defined as a computer system designed
for storing, manipulating, analyzing, and displaying data in a geographic
context. One of the advantages GIS provides is the ability to assist
in the decision making process by providing an additional tool to
analyze and compare numerous geographic data layers along with traditional
databases.
Yellowstone County's Interactive Mapping websites are sites that
allow you to access the County's GIS data interactively and quickly
over the Internet. These sites allow the user to view various data
layers, see tabular information related to the layers, and print
maps. Users can select by property information such as owner name,
address, legal descripton, parcel identification number or geographic
extent. Links to assessment, property tax and jurisdictional information
are also provided.
